A calm beginner's guide to starting
How to begin a movement practice without overwhelm or injury.

Starting is the hardest pose. The urge is to do everything at once; the wiser move is to do one small thing, today, and again tomorrow.

Pick ten quiet minutes and a patch of floor. Favour shapes that feel good over shapes that look impressive. Let the breath lead. When something is unclear, choose the gentler option.
You are not behind and you are not late. A practice is simply the sum of the days you showed up, and the first of those days can be today.
A few reminders
- Begin with ten minutes, not an hour.
- Choose comfort over ambition while you learn.
- Consistency beats intensity, every time.
Questions
Do I need any equipment?
A little floor space is enough to begin. A mat is a nice-to-have, not a must.
What if I can't do a pose?
Then it isn't your pose today. Choose the gentler version and let time do the rest.
